The Chicago Writers Association is pleased to celebrate the launch of The Write City Review Volume Two with you. The review includes captivating short stories, award-winning book excerpts and first chapters, and poignant poetry taken from CWA’s online magazine The Write City Magazine. The book also contains beautiful color photography from around the world and detailed pen and ink and pastel drawings. Writers featured in the review will be on hand to read their pieces during the Summer Social. Additionally, copies of both The Write City Review and The Write City Review Volume Two will be available for purchase.
The evening’s event will be hosted by the inimitable Bill Turck!
WC Turck is the host of Playtime with Bill Turck and Kerri Kendall, Chicago’s only commercial radio program dedicated to the Arts. Turck began as a visual Artist, studying under the master sculptor Milton Horn. In 1989, he was among the first Chicago Artists to support the Chinese pro-democracy movement in Tienanmen Square. In 1993, he traveled to Bosnia as a witness to the genocide. His memoir, Everything for Love recalls his experiences there. Later he helped organize over 20 tons of relief supplies to Rwanda.
His first novel, Broken, One Soldier’s Unexpected Journey Home, was recommended by the National Association of Mental Health Institutes for its subtext about PTSD. He published two more novels and has six more as yet unpublished.
In the autumn of 2014, relying on nearly two decades in the airline industry, Turck completed his investigative piece on the downing of Malaysian Airlines Flt-17. A TRAGIC FATE: Politics, Oil, the Crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and the Looming Threats to Civil Aviation beat the official account by almost nine months, and remains today the most accurate and comprehensive work on the disaster. Turck is also a playwright with two successful plays which garnered national media attention. He is currently working with a team to bring The Virginian to the stage.
