National Federation of Press Women Announces 2018 National Communications Contest Winners

Chicago – May 25, 2018 – The Illinois Woman’s Press Association (IWPA) had a number of accomplished members recognized by the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW), as the NFPW announced its 2018 National Communications Contest winners. The competition awards the best entries in a variety of communication categories, among them: editorial publications, blogs, speeches, novels, and specialty articles. Those that were recognized with 1st Place state awards at IWPA’s 77th Mate E. Palmer Contest Luncheon on Saturday, May 12 moved on to national judging.  

This year, IWPA entered 23 1st place state entries, and the results are in:

2^nd Place – Continuing Coverage or Unfolding News: Suzanne Hanney

3^rd Place– Editorial/Opinion-Online Publication: Tim Libretti

3^rd Place – Specialty Articles-Arts and Entertainment: Tim Libretti

3^rd Place – Specialty Articles Business: Tim Libretti

3^rd Place – Columns General: Marlene Cook

3^rd Place – Speech: Marianne Wolf-Astrauskas

Honorable Mention – Specialty Articles-Religion: Patricia Szpekowski

“Congratulations to the winners in the Mate E. Palmer Communications Contest, as well as the National Federation of Press Women judging” said President Cora Weisenberger. “IWPA is pleased and proud to offer a platform in which professional communications can be honored for their exceptional work, and hope it will inspire them to reach an even higher level of excellence.”

To be recognized on the national level is an honor and a privilege. NFPW winners receive a certificate of achievement presented at the awards banquet during the organization’s National Conference. At this important annual gathering, attendees can display and sell work, as well as network with other communications professionals. The Illinois Woman’s Press Association, founded in 1885, is an organization of communications professionals whose objective is to maintain and improve the professional standards of members in mass communications in Illinois, to promote their interest, and to provide for the sharing of ideas and information.
