What is the difference between “activism” and “clicktivism”? Do injustices make you want to change the world? What are the first steps you can take – now – to make a difference?

Kira Elliott, an experienced community organizer supporting a number of political and social movements, will arm IWPA members, non-members and students with the tools of advocacy. She’ll explain different types of activism and ways to get involved with causes that inspire us to action. You’ll walk away informed, empowered and ready to raise your voice.CWIPlogo_small

Kira Elliott

Kira Elliott’s activist journey began in 2003 with her arrival in Washington D.C. as a 19 year-old intern. The anti-war climate during the height of America’s involvement in Iraq swept her into a world of marches, sit-ins, demonstrations, canvassing and lobbying that she never imagined. In the last decade plus, Kira has marched in the Capitol on behalf of Planned Parenthood and NARAL, organized for MoveOn.org and USUncut Chicago, appeared in the Sundance documentary, We’re Not Broke, demonstrated on behalf of Occupy Wall Street, canvassed, phone banked and lobbied for the Wolf PAC and, most recently, volunteered for the Bernie Sanders campaign. She is an alumna of Bradley University, and co-owner Comfy Fitness, a Chicago personal training business. She also works as the Charity Liaison and Social Chair for the Mud Queens of Chicago, an all-female mud wrestling league.

“There are so many injustices I see in the world, and there is not enough of me to go around. I see an opportunity to engage the next generation of activists through the IWPA. I want to use my expertise to encourage empowerment, self-expression and seizure of the moment. Whether creating, leading or volunteering, each one of us can impact the future of this nation. We are all responsible for the direction of our great democracy.”
